Race for our kids!
Sadly, I lost my nephew to childhood asthma in 2014. Since his death, it has been my intention to do something in his honor annually. It's my attempt to turn something tragic into something beautiful. He can't be replaced; however I can do my part. This year (and hopefully many more), I gave out cupcakes to the participants and volunteers at the Race for our Kids at Lifebridge Health. The funds raised benefited the Children's Hospital at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. There was a late night and an early morning involved...and yes, I was exhausted (pssst...I made 500 cupcakes), but the energy there energized me. Despite ailments, disabilities and loss, people came out in droves on that dreary Sunday morning. I saw sick kids and families that walked in memory of a lost child. I saw grandparents in wheelchairs and some walking with canes. It was inspiring and healing at the same time. It is definitely a "must do again" kind of thing. I always say "there's always a reason for cake!" Yesterday's reason was about the community, love, loss and hope.
Until next time cake friends!
